Wageningse onderzoekers produceren eerste liters bioethanol uit
stro.

Transport in Nederland zonder een druppel fossiele brandstof ? Is dat in de
21ste eeuw haalbaar? De Europese Unie heeft als doelstelling dat in 2010 5,75%
van de transportbrandstoffen uit biomassa afkomstig moet zijn. In Nederland is
geen ruimte voor de verbouw van koolzaad en zonnebloemen, wel liggen er kansen
voor de verwerking van cellulosegewassen. Alleen de omzetting van hout en gras
in brandstof is nog een lastig probleem.
